the daredevil cat goes down a life
Friday night Jude was petting our cat Ollie and discovered this piece of wood
stuck in his side:
We don’t know how he did it and he’s not talking. Right now he’s pouting under a
nearby table because he can’t go outside. I believe he was jumping from a tree and
caught a branch straight on. However it happened, it missed his vital parts and our
vet got it out cleanly.
Ollie has to stay housebound with limited movement for a week. The first 24 hours
he didn’t mind because he was addled from the anasthesia.
But now he’s alert and insisting that he be allowed to presume his feline duties. So
Jude and I are taking turns watching him constantly. In psych terms, he’s on a
one-to-one. He wants to tear out those two pieces of white drainage tube from the
ends of his incision.
The vet gave us a plastic collar to prevent that, but we’ve put it on him as tightly
as we dare and he easily sheds it. I wanted it to work so I could show you a photo
of it and mention a segment of “The Simpsons” where they had to do that to the
family dog. The dog walked by Grampa Simpson and he yelled “Hey, the lamp’s
running away!” Now I’ll have to find another way to work in the joke.
Ollie just jumped up on my lap. I’m holding him with one hand and typing with
the other, so please bear with me as I type slower. It’s going to be a long week,
and I need to remember to wear leather gloves when I squirt the antibiotic down
his throat.
