it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

The Advent calendar metaphor I posited last post aside, Trump himself is advocating for a happy Yuletide. Witness the bribes he offers at the rallies that show dwindling crowds at dwindling venues. He took time off from raving about his deplorable Russian diesel deal to throw some fresh red meat to the True Believers somewhere in a formerly safe district, effortlessly ghosting Kimberly Guilfoyle, almost a daughter-in-law, by saying she might have dated Junior. He further tapped into the spirit of the season by backtracking on Secretary of Defense and/or War Pete Hegseth’s plan to live-stream an execution. Seems Aging Orange found out that the executee is wheelchair bound. He’s thoughtful that way.

As the days melt away, news get ever more grim for him. The inflation rate went up again in September. Early voting suggests Democratic fervor and GOPer torpor. I just watched a Trump event in Arizona, typically deep red, that showed just a few hundred attendees. Granted there were more off camera, but this was no stadium he used to pack.

So, although I still fear an October surprise, my hopes are growing for a heartening November. It could be that Donny Jay is convinced he’s doing enough to assure victory. He’s that delusional.
