the storm before The Storm
Short and brutish February can’t leave the farm too soon for me. It’s been substantially colder than usual. We only have 50 or so mm (@2 inches) of rain thus far. We usually average 250 for the month. And it’s five weeks before the San Francisco Giants can begin to regain my confidence in them. They’ve done precious little in the off-season to give me hope. Thank Random Chance for the Golden State Warriors.
The real problem with this particular mid-winter is, of course, Donald Trump. As he steams the USS America toward rocky shoals, we found out today that the Mueller report will drop quite soon. The Don remains unapologetic and uncaring about the course we’re on as he blindly pursues funds for the wall. We do have a national emergency: him.
His quixotic quest will likely continue to expand in bizarreness until Mueller drops the hammer. Hopefully Thor’s hammer. Andrew McCabe is hawking his new book by suggesting that Trump may be a Russian asset. Roger Stone goes to court tomorrow to explain why he challenged his judge’s gag order by posting a photo of her with a crosshairs symbol behind her. Stone, a whining bully like Trump, would stoop to the earth’s core to solicit sympathy. But he made his bedlam, let him steep in it.
Not even at my most fearful can I see Donnie come out of the investigation unscathed. It has found more smoke than the summer wildfires generated. But since he has devoted his life to covering his tracks, he may skate a lot. Maybe the mass of folks he’d throw under the bus would raise it off its axles.
However it plays out, it will be messy. Constitutional crisis messy. Pay your satellite bill, stock up on essentials, gather your loved ones near and dig in.

February usually isn’t this bad spring was already happening. I planted new plants did some pruning all of which I shouldn’t have done in February or n the two weeks of below-freezing weather before that. Then the snow kept falling which I usually like but it broke down some of our favorite old plants. trees fell and we blew the budget on arborists. We spent days shoveling and salting. Still got snow piled up around here and trying to clean up the damage. I looked at the weather forecast and there might be more coming.
I keep track of the weather in all the places we have been for a few months in the winter but this year none of them were alternative places to go. It was too cold or flooding everywhere. I was in Arizona in December cold in the mornings but warm by afternoon.
Are you going away for awhile now?

As always, Dan straight! But I now believe that Mexico will pay for the wall. The Danald is making such a mess of things that they may well build a wall to keep us out, especially should there, God forbid, be a second term.
Two feet of snow here in the central highlands of Arizona…a “rare weather event” they call it, not seen since the 1960s. With snowdrift, my patio had 4 feet of snow on it, right up against the sliding doors. I did have to do some shoveling there. But here 6 days later, the melt is going well as temps are back in the 50s, and 60s due tomorrow. January and March are usually our big snow months, this one hit right in between. I haven’t minded it; brought in plenty of vittles and a stash of DVDs, so it’s been fine. Mail hasn’t been delivered though in 4 or 5 days, that’s starting to be a bit of an issue–not that I miss my junk mail, but…
