they’re not kittens, but hopefully this will help

November 2, 2016

I’ve been desperate for distractions lately.  Thank you, Cubbies, and good luck tonight.  There’s also been a lot of avian visitors on our ponds as they take a break from migrating.  One snow goose, two mallards, three Canada geese and seven trumpeter swans (I’m not working on a Christmas song here) have graced us recently.  Witness:

katou-and-swans-040

The lead male of the swans is loud and raucous, so I named him Donald Trumpeter.  Too obvious, I know, but — as noted — I’m desperate.  I’m laying as low as possible to get to next Wednesday.

The campaign has been as brutal as promised, but who could have predicted some of the specifics?  One of Trump’s accusers is a porn star. Hillary’s latest woe was caused by a guy who can’t keep it in his pants.  And his name is Weiner.

I rue that the major issue of sexual assault of women has been overshadowed by some e-mails that may or may not be significant, but Hillary has faced it like an adult as the Mad Yam still whines about how terrible it all is.  The contrast dovetails with the massive sexism Clinton has faced.  She has gone up against some truly abysmal men: Trump, Steve Bannon, Roger Ailes, Rudy Guiliani, Rush Limbaugh, Julian Assange, et al.  Jim Comey may not belong in that group, but his timing stinks.  Even hubby Bill brought her grief with several comments and his tarmac visit with Loretta Lynch, easily the most bone-headed move of the season.

Nate Silver still has Hillary’s chances at 70%.  But, given the unpredictability of this goddamnest election ever, I’d like to throw out a scenario for your consideration:

Trump wins.  His “rawness”, beloved by tens of millions, hardens into hubris immediately. He actually tries to do the things he promised.  But he can’t.  Obamacare just can’t be wished away due to those pesky supreme Court decisions.  The Wall stalls because Mexico won’t pay but will retaliate to economic sanctions.  The 650 million rapists in Trump’s mind fail to step across the Rio Grande.

The only doom and gloom is generated by The Donald himself, as his fiscal policies tank the economy.  Having supposedly vanquished all his boogeymen and boogeywomen, there is no one to blame but himself, which he is incapable of doing.  His negativity catches up to him.

Meanwhile, the Democrats regroup.  They thank the Clintons for their service, give them gold watches and start developing their farm team.  They keep building their base.  A million Hispanics a year turn voting age, and the GOP continues to lose old white people.  In 2018, the Dems retake the House and Senate, seriously blocking Trump’s efforts.

The supremely arrogant Donald has already alienated key members of the military and the civilian intelligence community.  Michael Hayden, former director of the NSA and CIA, has already stated that the military would balk at a nuclear launch it considered unwarranted.  Trump has wondered aloud why we don’t use nukes since we have them.

I hope that none of this plays out, but however it does, the next few years in the U.S. are gonna suck.  I urge you to vote, even if you’re Canadian.

Thx for the latest post, Allen. While I fully appreciate the blessing of wisdom from life’s many adventures, perhaps sometimes “enough is enough”…a sad election process. I do miss your wit that I so easily took for granted so many years ago.

Two other scenarios. Trump ahold he win grows bored after three months on the job and resigns and walks away. He becomes a bad dream on the political landscape

    Or

He rapidly runs the country into the ground and sells us to Scotland at bargain-basement prices. We get a queen and join the Commonwealth, just like Canada, saving millions of us the trouble of having to move.

John, Gordon and Dora: stay brave, my friends, and know that we have plenty of space for all of you and ten of your family. Dora, if Trump wins, let’s talk about Quadra Island’s first taqueria. Gordie, I think the Mad Yam also might consider outsourcing the Presidency to a Japanese company. John, I’m always glad to share what wit I have left with you, and hope we can quaff some more beers in your kitchen some day. My best to the Colonel.

Allen, that is a stunningly beautiful photo, so to view that scene in person must be magical! Also, wanted to share that I, yes me, watched the WS this year (most of it anyway). Great last game. I’ve only watched three WS in my life; oddly, one every 15 years, and no, I didn’t plan it that way. Keep those great photos coming! Inveterate Teacher

    Hi Allen,
I think that this election has everyone on pins and needles and sick to death of all of the insults and slurs, especially the ones that the Donald keeps going.
I have a friend who says that Trump is just what we need to get our economy back on track because he is a Business Man and he knows how to make money…. Uh yeah… I was there in Nevada when the housing market failed and I seen way too many contractors go out of business, and a few that actually did work for Trump and sink because he refused to pay them for some slight or perhaps significant loop hole that allowed him to get out of paying people what they earned for jobs completed.
He earned his a good bit of his wealth by cheating others out of money he owed them, and by the way, just what is in his Tax records? There is really nothing that says he has to turn them over, but I would like to know for my own personal reasons.

And Mrs. Clinton, Bless her heart! Has all of her Fibs come back to bite her in the butt? I don’t know but I would feel a whole lot easier if she was the one that had the codes to the Nukes. And the reason behind that is she will at least give it a minutes thought as to where Trump will go ballistic and throw a temper tantrum and have his own melt down.

Most of this is just me venting my frustration. So I do have a question and one that I would be interested in hearing your opinion.
So if Clinton wins and Trump doesn’t as he has threatened not to concede to her, (The election is rigged you know) and he contests it, does that mean that Obama will stay in office longer?
Will they have to hold another election in certain states?
Can she still become Madam President anyway?
    Just questions.

This whole thing has really had me upside down lately. I will just be glad when it is all over and done with. It will be happening sooner than we think.

I love the photo of the birds. They are gorgeous. I wish that we had some with in walking distance of us but we don’t have any close.
I hope that you and Jude are well and forgive my little venting… Take care, Beth

Beth, we are well and hope the same for you as the U.S. enters a most challenging time.

Thank You Allen. I am well as can be and thank you for your well wishes in this difficult time in our country. I just don’t know or understand so much about Politics but I am trying to educate myself a little more every day.
I am so glad that you and Jude are doing well. How is the pup? I hope to see pictures soon and look forward to reading more of your blog. I have missed it over the months. I have started back posting on Word Press. I find that Wood Press really does not like me. I go along be popping and all is fine and then it will not let me in… locks me out. I think that I have it fixed now. I really hope so because I do like it here
It rained today and I loved it. All that energy and eons have made for some good vibes. We are not doing the Traditional Thanksgiving this year. Something in between. One of my kids is in Wisconsin and my daughter and grandkids are in Northern California so it is just my daughter and her husband if he comes. He usually sits out holidays, And the boys will be here. We moved and the moving expenses have hurt our budgets but December should be better.
Time for bed. I am seeing double so it is time to say goodnight. Say hello to Jude for me… and give the pup a good snuggle… Hugs, Beth
