gusting winds in Tampa
Even though Isaac veered away from Tampa, I’ll idly speculate winds will reach hurricane
force there at the Republican national convention. I caught some of the speeches in ’08 and
decided that life is too short to subject myself to that torture again.
Watching speakers like Sara Palin and Rudy Guiliani sneer at anything non-GOP, I was struck
by how they mistook meanness for toughness. This year’s list includes as diverse a group as
could be mobilized to convince a sliver of independent voters that this paternalistic party
does indeed pitch a big tent.
That tent, however, will not cover those in civil unions, pregnant rape or incest victims
seeking abortions, or those seeking equal treatment under the law as long as they’re not
hurting anyone else. These groups have just been rejected by the Republican platform
committee.
All the diversity will be on stage. If the crowd this time is like that of the last convention,
you’ll need sunglasses when the cameras pan across it, due to the glare from the whiteness.

I have seriously grown weary of all of the political hog wash that is being slung all over the place. Who do I believe in? All of them are liars as far as I can tell and it does not say well for the many other people that feel the same way that I do.
I have a new pair of shades and will put them to good use!
And Paul Ryan starts his stint as a Major Player by playing loose with the truth, claiming Obama told auto workers in his hometown that he wouldn’t close down their plant, then did. Most of the plant was shut down before Obama took office.
Sad when diversity is summed up in the title of that song from my childhood — A Whiter Shade of Pale.
Compare the GOP convention crowd to the Democrats. It’s striking.
did you see the picture from tonight of romney/ryan and about 100 campaign staff members.. condi was the token minority i think.. i have not seen so many white people together since…well.. i was going to say a kkk meeting but that would not be nice…
I admire your restraint, kris, even as I chuckle. I didn’t see the photo, but you could exempt Condi as a token, in my book. She was central to spreading the lies about WMD and even had a crush on Dubya. How creepy is that?
The gossip mills are running full blast around here. I just do not know what to believe. I have my own issues about Obama naturally, but I seem to have far more issues with Romney and Ryan at the moment.
There is only one thing that I know for certain and that is that Obama has AGED a lot since he took office.
Yes, it looks like he’s packed on about 20 years. May I suggest the Pulitzer Prize-winning website politifact.com as a great source to counter the gossip mills? Right now, for example, it’s calling out Romney for a
“Pants-on-Fire” lie about Obama. They catch Democrats at it, too.
