good one, Michelle

August 21, 2024

I admit that I only watched snippets of the GOP convention, none of them Trump’s acceptance speech, which, I’m told, started decently enough but soon devolved into the Same Old Shit. I further admit that the last time I watched said event, many years ago, I tuned out when the cameras panned across the delegates and I was nearly blinded by the whiteness.

Conversely, I have consumed large chunks of the Democrats’ convention and can best sum up the difference thusly: the GOP’s musical headliner was Kid Rock, while the Dems had James Taylor doing the sound check.

Last night Kamala Harris trolled Aging Orange by filling the venue the GOP convened in last month. Some old friends of her, Barack and Michelle Obama, filled in nicely. Their speeches were as inspiring as any I’ve heard, and Michelle ripped off an epic zinger when she mused that maybe the presidency is one of those black jobs Trump babbles about.

All props to the Dems for the professionalism they are are putting into their confab. Their content is excellent, the pacing is nonpareil and the joy is palpable.
