country fair in the summer sun …
Here’s hoping you had a great Labor Day or Labour Day weekend. We did. We
being Jude, me and most everybody else on the island. Hundreds of folks were
at the inaugural Fall Fair, and it seemed like everyone was smiling. Let’s take
a tour.
The chickens were as diverse as the eggs.
There were odd-shaped vegetables, too.
And beautifully shaped ones.
The flowers were beautiful, of course.
Outside, the bonsai trees of our neighbour Len attracted a lot of attention.
Elsewhere, the principal of the elementary school took a dip in the dunk tank.
Fairgoers could make scarecrows for a contest.
They could admire lavishly decorated gumboots.
Or simply throw less ornate ones for distance.
This cupcake caterpillar got a lot of attenti0n — a little too much in the end.
Hands down this was my favourite. Whimsical AND practical. How often do you
see that? It was created by 13-year-old Ocean Mawhinney, a young lady of many
talents. This displays the welding skills she’s learning from her dad. They spent
a lot of time on this. Ocean is also an accomplished artist and even had time to run
her dog through an agility course at the fair.
The fair got nothing but rave reviews. I can’t wait for the next one.
