So Trump’s endless self praise went over like a turd in a reflecting pool Wednesday when he addressed a surprisingly small crowd on the National Mall to start a 16-day celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Estimates of attendees ranged from NBC’s “more than 1,000” to Aging Orange’s 45,000. My favourite measurement was the Washington Post‘s “smaller than some summer outdoor movie screenings”.
You’ll remember that this was the gala that was going to feature such musical superstars like Bret Michaels and the Commodores, until they backed out because of the political implications. Likewise Milli Vanilli. Not just the original studio vocalists, but Fab Morvan, one of the lip synchers, as well. Trump had to settle for Lee Greenwood. Kash Patel’s squeeze Alexis Wilkins sang the national anthem. Wilkins insisted that she was invited to sing on her own merit as a country music artist.
Donny Jay hasn’t even attempted to explain video of people leaving during his speech, but it’s most likely Biden’s fault.
About that pool: I was dubious of Trump’s claim that the damage was the work of vandals until I saw video proof today: his motorcade driving over the new surface before it was refilled.
