giving thanks

I would like all of you south of the 49th to — if you haven’t already — look beyond the racist, genocidal roots of American Thanksgiving to simply be thankful for a safe and secure election. I still don’t have all the “yikes” out of my bones since the U.S. survived its biggest existential threat in my memory.

I never believed I was the only person who feared an authoritarian future. Prominent presidential historian Michael Beschloss affirmed that thought recently. Trump has toyed with it for some time, in that “I-was-joking-why-do-you-hate-me-so?” kinda way he does.

It could be the nine month’s worth of girding my emotional and spiritual loins that’s causing rumbles of enthusiasm. Biden has hit almost every right note simply by counter-programming. Aging Orange and crew are having a heckuva mic drop. Watching Guiliani’s hair dye mutate into a pencil-thin sideburn, I flashed on the scene in “Alien” when the android Ash (Ian Holm) malfunctions as android juice dribbles down his face. Did anyone else?
