the new kids in the coop
The ghost in the machine has dissipated, so I can now present our new chickens to you.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome:
Princess Layer – named by Gordon. She
is the most elegant looking of the rookies,
and she knows it. She’s constantly posing
like this. She has a strong sense of entitle-
ment. We’ll see how that plays out.
Rosie – named by Rosie. The reddest of all the
girls. As friendly as Princess Layer is aloof.
kate – named by kris. Her necklace of
cream-coloured feathers and confident
attitude reminded me of Katherine
Hepburn. Elegant yet approachable.
Ethel – named by Charlotte. Like her namer, she’s very
direct and doesn’t hesitate to squawk when things aren’t
right.
Maxine – named by Anonymous. She’s
mysterious, like Anonymous.
Justine – named by Dan, my son-in-law’s
brother. She’s a maverick like Dan. I don’t
think it’s a coincidence that she’s looking
away from the camera.
Dang – held by Jude, sort of named by Beanie when she
exclaimed “Dang” after that glory hog Gordon stole the
name she had in mind. Dang immediately became Jude’s
favourite. Jude was working on a more magical name
when Slinkee killed Dang. It was Dang’s adventurous
nature that brought on her demise. She found a hole
in the fencing and had gone exploring when Slinkee
found her. Rest in peace, Dang. We are all just dust
and feathers in the wind.

Much classier than Kate Gosselin, eh? Be proud.
