nothing new, move along
I watched the correspondents’ dinner with as much objectivity as I could muster, and it actually got off to a promising start. Trump opened with an ad lib about how hard it had been to watch the presentation of awards to those who had bedeviled him. It got a solid laugh and I had a glimmer of hope that Aging Orange might have a spate of self-awareness.
Wrong. He then settled into a predictable rehash of his successes, perceived and sometimes accurate, sprinkled with lame jokes that had him noticeably peeved. As he slogged along, he started to add his usual embellishments. He steadily slipped off script. The bulk of his 64-minute talk was a stream-of-consciousness bitch session. In military terms, he bombed. Nothing new to hear here. Move along.
Trump’s self-absorption ’tis a pity. As the world burns partially because of his cataclysmic war, huge chunks of North America and Europe are burning because of climate change. The longer we stall, the tougher the choices are going to be.
