summer oatmeal
After several days of hot, humid weather on the farm, today has started rainy with a goodly amount more on its way. Mind you, we’re not talking miasmic, swamp-feverish bad humidity that you could carve your initials in, but Canadian reason-enough-to-crack-a-beer-or-so bad. Cool enough for oatmeal.
The rain is particularly welcome since the camping season here is in full swing. We just had our big Independence Day weekend and some cretin(s) tried to have a campfire at our biggest campground, starting several fires in a mound of driftwood. They were caught early on, fortunately.
I’m limiting my TV time mostly to baseball games, Jeopardy and The Daily Show. As cheered as I can get with the Toronto Blue Jays winning streak, I still get a whiff or two of reality from accidental exposure to the news. I see today that the Trump administration is continuing its commitment to cluelessness. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins suggested that Medicaid recipients could do the farm work now amply available from the ICE raids.
I can’t shake the image of folks planting seeds in the two furrows cut by someone in a wheelchair.

If I were a cartoonist, I would draw that exact image for you as I think it makes for an excellent bit of political satire…

Hey, JB, Good to know that you’re surviving the heat wave. Looks like some rain is headed your way. We would gladly take some temperature points from you up here. We’re still having cool weather overall. My best to the Colonel. AP
