thank you for dropping in
I’ve been blogging for 14 years. I’m not in it for the gold, glamour or groupies. I’ve been writing since junior high, when I got a satirical piece in the school newspaper exposing Santa Claus for exploiting his elf workers. That was enough to encourage me to go to Hollywood 30 years later to pursue a screenwriting career.
I learned straightaway that any talent one might actually have takes a distant third to connections and relentless self-promotion if one wishes to succeed. Still, I loved the beaches and balmy weather, so I stayed until my second wife lured me back to Kansas.
She’s there yet and I’m in a forest in Canada with the love of my life. This blog centers on the incredible life Jude and I have created up here. It’s primarily an account of our attempts to reduce our carbon footprint, intertwined with the joys and sorrows of self-consciousness.
Whenever I blog, I check on how many viewers I’ve had recently. Until this month it was usually in the single digits, and I could name all of those digits. May 2nd, however, I catapulted into double stats — a staggering 14 folks dropped in. It has continued to climb, logging a blog record 65 Monday.
So, thank you for dropping by. I encourage you to check out the tabs at the top of the page to learn more about the blog. Conversely, I would like to know how you learned of the blog. You can stay anonymous by commenting at the bottom the post. Don’t worry. I won’t try to sell you Amway.

Honored to be a part of your following , be it single digit or millions. I count on you for a clear and accurate (we do see along the same lines of thought very consistently), if not satirical, reporting of what is going on without pushing a panic button but certainly with the rose-colored eyewear left on the nightstand. I have lots of serious conversations with my eldest son (43) who is quite concerned with the way DJT, the rest of the so-called-former GOP and probably our generation in general for allowing this country to revert to pre-Vietnam capitalism/greed/all those other things we hated…our current condition truly frightens him…and what can I offer as a parent still seeing in him the 12 year old who looked up to mw to have answers or at least partial solutions for every life challenge…congrats on the audience you so heartily deserve!
Peace and Semper Fi

Hey, JB, Thank you. I appreciate it and kind of reciprocate by following you on Facebook. Those strawberries looked scrumptious.
Allen,
I read every post.
Keep up the good work.
Best,

I acknowledge that I live, work and play on the traditional unceded territories and ancestral lands of the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, Klahoose, Homalco, Kwiakah, Tlowitsis, & K’omoks peoples. As part of my personal journey of decolonization, I continue to learn, listen, and take action towards justice and equity in being a settler living as an uninvited guest on this land.
Thanks, Blake. I hope all is well with you and yours. Your acknowledgement of the true owners of our wonderful island is truly heartening.
I don’t remember how I found you! It’s been so long. But I made sure to add you to the directory I keep on my blog (the last one, Golden Grain Farm on Blogspot) where whenever you post a new entry the link rises to the top of the section your blog is in, so I don’t miss anything! It’s always interesting to hear not only how you and Jude live in beautiful B.C, but how a transplanted American views things up here.
A toast to the next 14 years!
When I started blogging, my mentor Kathy (who used to do “kitchenblogic”) suggested that I add you to my blogroll. It has been my honour to have you with me this entire wondrous adventure. I’m contacting you through e-mail with a tech question.
I’ll watch for it.
I thought it was Kathy! Just wasnt sure anymore.
