a sure sign of spring
Trump’s outrage du jour is challenging the funding of NPR and PBS because they spread “radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news'”. Unlike Fox News. But even that absurdity can’t darken my day because I saw my first true sign of spring yesterday: a snake.
We only have one species of our serpentine friends — garters — on our island. They are important in the grand scheme of things. We treat them with respect and they avoid us whenever possible, which regrettably, isn’t often enough. I have mowed over several of them because they reversed course before I could. Fortunately, this one showed up when I was merely chopping up old cedar shingles for kindling. The dogs drew my attention to it. It was in a defensive coil until I called them off, then it slithered to safety through some fencing.
Snakes are a more accurate harbinger of spring than birds and bats because they are cold-blooded. Indeed, we are supposed to hit 15 degrees (@ 60 F.) today for the first time since September 29th. I’m truly grateful for warm weather to start my outdoor projects. It’s a waste of energy to fret over Aging Orange’s relentless attack on All That’s Good. It seems that a third of the electorate loves all he does and a third hates it. Fortunately, recent polls show that he’s losing the middle third.

If some people are starting to see sense … thank gawd, and it’s about time. I hope not too late.
Jude and I can never give up hope, what with all our family and old friends still down there. If I were a Trumper or uncommitted voter, I would worry about his diminishing mental acuity, like his ramblings when he hosted the L.A. Dodgers in the White House recently.
