apocalypse soon enough

April 5, 2025

The crowds are still swelling across the U.S. right now, but it’s looking like protests against Trump’s tariffs will be impressive. The damage Aging Orange is doing will be massive, but he showed his trademark compassion by attending an LIV golf tournament, passing up the return of the bodies of four soldiers who died recently in Lithuania.

The four, PFC Dante Taitano and SSgts. Jose Duenez Jr., Edvin Franco and Troy Knutsen-Collins, died trying to recover a truck that had broken down in a swamp. With typical cluelessness, Trump dispatched Pete Hegseth, his embattled Secretary of Defense, to receive the remains. I hope Hegseth didn’t shake hands with anyone. The Harvard and Princeton graduate doesn’t wash his because he doesn’t believe in germs, reasoning that he’d never seen any.

There may be no bottom to the rabbit hole Trump is pulling the world into. As erratically as he behaves, he can be counted on to double down on his dreadful choices. And the tariffs are his worst choice yet.

Peter and I attended an “Elbows Up” rally in Victoria at the Legislature. It was conceived by two women on Facebook, so the attendance wasn’t huge, but the entertainment was great. The attendees were mainly older people. There were two angry men there. We weren’t sure what they wanted. One had a bullhorn and was shouting about everything that was wrong with the country. Apparently, they didn’t like our rallying behind Canada as if we were ignoring the problems. I didn’t hear any solutions from them. They were having a “Hands Off” rally across the strait in Port Angeles. An American couple from Montana came and spoke a did Elizabeth May but it was non-partisan so she didn’t mention the Green Party. A friend went to the US yesterday and she said she was the only car at the border. What is happening in the US is truly unbelievable. I am still waiting for my WEP retro payment in the meantime they fired much of the staff at SS and the IT guys who get the info out so I am afraid I will not get my payment before they wreck the place.

Good luck getting your payment, Judith. Jude and I are hoping that our Social Security and VA Disability won’t be affected because we’re already in those systems. Kudos to you and Peter for attending the Victoria rally.

Pittsburg had its own sled down “Hands Off” protest today at 3pm as we waited for the rain to stop-it was cloudy and was about 40 degrees F but we were still able to get a couple hundred folks to bundle up and challenge the gusty winds from the north. Several enlightened speakers educated and entertained the crowd: one a retired history professor from PSU, one female therapist/activist, one who brought the 90+page copy of Project 2025 (only about a 5 minute summary!), one purple heart army veteran(US born citizen of “illegal” migrants according to her bio) and some wonderful crowd sing-a -longs compliments of JT Knoll. Encouragement for hope from none of us being alone and joining in with similar rallies in Topeka, Lawrence and KC that several of our friends witnessed…for all of the dumb asses and cruel bastards t0 whom MAGA offers comfort and I guess joy, it is nice to see so many truly decent folks get out and shout “Hands Off”(I silently add mother fuckers, there sere some small children present) to Donnie and the Muskrats.I still write to our Senator Moran, who is a decent guy but has been way too complicit in his silence and/or support of Trump’s actions…he has taken mild stances against USAID’s cuts and policies damaging to agriculture but he should have better resistance than he’s shown as he is not running again… peace and semper fi

Hey, J.B. Thank you for braving early April Kansas weather to be heard (and displaying constant Kansas courtesy by not cussing in front of the young’uns). Please do keep writing to Moran. Losing Congressional support is maybe the only thing Aging Orange will respond to. It’s good to hear that JT is still causing good trouble. My best to the Colonel. Semper Fi
