waiting for Milton
Actually, I’m waiting more so for my lovely wife Jude. When she returns from an errand run we plan to do some outside chores ahead of yet more rain. We’ve had enough precipitation lately to reopen our micro-hydro pipes, but may have a problem getting the raw energy into our battery bank. Fortunately, we’re still getting quite a bit of solar and have a generator for back-up.
I’m checking in with CNN quite often as Hurricane Milton moves ashore. Jude’s daughter and my niece are right in its path, and both have chosen to ride it out. In the absence of any pertinent information, I’m amusing myself by wondering if a third superstorm would break off the Florida peninsula from the panhandle and create a new island nation. Mar-a-Lago would certainly be its capital and Trump would certainly claim to be its king.
I’m fine with that. I need to cut back on the endless election speculation. It looks like a toss-up, but how can that be when Harris is a rational adult and Aging Orange is a raving loon? I’ve stopped seeking out polls that confirm my biases, settling for this overriding observation: since the overturning of Roe, female turnout has been stronger than predicted in numerous elections, most notably blunting the Red Tide in the 2022 House races.
I’ve got ample distractions elsewhere, anyway. As a longtime Midwestern resident, I can heartily support the Kansas City Royals in the MLB playoffs. That also applies to the KC Chiefs, plus the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. LSU is holding its own in the powerhouse SEC in college football. And in four weeks, the KU Jayhawks will start its basketball season ranked #1.
Oh, hey. Jude’s home. Gotta go.

KU football was supposed to be a bit of a treat this season but perhaps their season may have ended-though hope still is here…yes, this election is a scary one as NOTHING seems to be able to move Trump from having 70 million+ voters and the potential for having thin majorities in those states we call “purple” so that the left-over Southern slave-owners’ compromise with the Electoral College being a part of our Constitution keeps life precarious in the era of Trumpty Dumpty… love ya Marine…hug that woman you love!!

Hey, JB. I have made my peace with the outcome of the election. If it goes south (or Southern), I’ll have to accept that the U.S. is indeed red and that going backward is the will of the majority, however slim. We might get some family up here after all. I will happily hug Jude if you hug the Colonel. semper fi
I still don’t understand how people can vote for Trump and how crazy other elected Republicans are. I watched Liz Cheney campaign with Kamala that was interesting. They mentioned her father the War Criminal and people cheered!! Mitt Romney still thinks he can fix the Republican Party.
I have become a Kansas City Chiefs fan for some reason. I like the Taylor Swift spectacle even though I am not a fan of hers. I like the stories behind the members of the team. I also like the Kelce family and listen to the podcasts of Travis and Jason. I have never been so involved in a football team before. I haven’t missed a game.
Was in Arizona for 1 week that was Hell. So nice up here in the fresh, cool misty air.

It’s good to hear that you survived Arizona. I couldn’t name one Taylor Swift song, but I admire her activism.. I’ve been a Chiefs fan since they moved to Kansas City from Dallas in 1963. I wish they would jettison their nickname, but at least they got rid of the Tomahawk Chop and chant.
And another thing
I don’t think the Chiefs are playing very well even though they are winning games. I don’t think it is ok when most of your points come from field goals. They have been very lucky and they have a great defense. But that is it!

They’ve been a perennial powerhouse and Mahomes should keep them in the hunt as long as he’s healthy. I really look forward to their game with the 49ers.
