allow me to clarify
In my last post, I erroneously said that Trump claimed illegal immigrants were eating the pets of Springfield, Illinois. In the Comments section of that post, Anonymous pointed out that it was in fact Springfield, Ohio, so thank you for that, Anonymous. Trump’s assertion has received much attention. Springfield city officials say they have received no complaints of this nature.
Springfield’s population dropped from @ 82,000 in 1960 to 60,000 in 2020 due to a loss of manufacturing jobs. A major revitalization effort has attracted 15,000 to 20,000 Haitian refugees. They are not illegal immigrants. Nearly all of them have temporary protected status.
One of them, Hermanio Joseph, drove into a school bus last year, killing 11-year-old Aiden Clark and injuring about two dozen other children. Joseph was sentenced to at least nine years in prison. The day before the debate, Aging Orange posted that Aiden was “killed on his way to school by a Haitian migrant that Kamala Harris let into the country.”
Aiden’s parents went to a Springfield City Commission meeting the next day and his father said he wished his son “was killed by a 60-year-old white man” instead of a Haitian immigrant. “I bet you never thought anyone would ever say anything so blunt,” Nathan Clark continued, “but if that guy killed my 11-year-old son, the incessant group of hate-spewing people would leave us alone.”
Springfield does have logistical problems with the influx of the Haitians, but mutt-munching immigrants isn’t one of them.
