fresh worry

May 25, 2024

I recently saw a Cook Political Report survey that showed the top concern of U.S. voters is cost of living, with abortion policy and the future of democracy in the middle. Climate change was last. A few days later the National Weather Service issued its prediction for the upcoming hurricane season. NOAA scientists predict 17 to 25 named storms compared to an average of 14, 13 hurricanes compared to an average of seven, and four to seven major hurricanes compared to three.

In order words, get ready for more grief, Gulf Coast.

Having struggled with poverty much of my adult life, I can certainly understand and sympathize with folks that live paycheck to paycheck. But I don’t grasp how the public can’t see this freight train coming. Holiday travel in the U.S. this weekend is expected to be the busiest ever.

There are countless programs and processes addressing the problem. Please do what you can.

And please remember the U. S. war dead. I’ll be lifting one for my Marine buddy Eddie Weekfall later.

How about those tornados? If that doesn’t show them nothing will. How do you go on after that?

Thanks, J.B. And thanks for taking me to the Wall in 2012.
