the curse of interesting times

I dread saying it, but ya gotta give today to Trump. The Supreme Court signaled that they’ll rule in his favour on the 14th Amendment matter, but that’s not much of a gimme. The wording of the amendment is murky and SCOTUS will heartily give Aging Orange the toss-ups. Jim Jordan and other Trump toadies are crowing about the Hur report that Biden mishandled classified documents, claiming a double standard. Nikki Haley, trying to prop up her quixotic campaign, lumped the two presumptive nominees into the Old Fart dustbin: forgetful, out of touch, but kinda sorta well-meaning.

Trying to equate Biden’s fuck-ups to Trump’s will only highlight the much heavier aspects of Trump’s, particularly that he obstructed justice. But Haley has a point. Both Old Farts get older and fartier every day. It’s really time for them to step aside. And I say that as an Old Fart just four weeks younger than Trump. I voted for Biden partly because he all but said he would be a one-term transitional president. Bow out gracefully, Joe. You’ve got a good bench. Gavin Newsome and Katie Porter come to mind right off.

Trump’s victory will be short-lived anyway. A New York judge is about to drop a ton of legal bricks on Donny’s financial empire, and SCOTUS is most likely going to uphold a circuit court’s ruling against his claim of immunity.
