medically pleasant
I saw a respiratory specialist yesterday and got encouraging news. The hole that collapsed my left lung two months ago has healed. However, because we don’t know what caused the leak and due to my age, the doctor is having me take it easy for another month. I will likely be referred to a thoracic surgeon. In the meantime, I can cheerily report that I am medically pleasant. One of my recent X-ray reports described me as “a pleasant 77-year-old man”.
So I got that going for me.
The doctor who (not THE Doctor Who) assessed me is just a chitlin-throw away from a Popeyes Chicken, so my Louisiana heritage compelled me to stop by. I had been raving to my primary doctor about Popeyes, so Jude and I bought a Family Feast. We had the sandwiches, then took the six pieces of mild and spicy chicken, onion rings and beans & rice to my doctor.
There have been very few times in my life where the timing was perfect, but this was one of them. I wanted to get the Popeyes Feast to the doctor before his office closed, but the ferry ride back to Quadra was uncharacteristically sluggish and the office was locked when we got there. The lights were still on, though, and one of the office staff responded to my urgent knocking.
When we got home, there was a phone message from another staff member thanking us profusely. The Feast coincided superbly with the staff’s after-hours hunger.
You’re welcome, Popeyes, which despite its New Orleans roots, is now owned by a Toronto company.

Timing is everything and you must be aging like a fine wine…of all adjectives I may have heard surround your presence, I think the “pleasant” is a new one. How wonderful a revelation! Reminds me of the time I was sitting at KU Med Center, waiting to see my doctor while also filling out the routinely require forms and looked at the top of my folder spotting “72 year old male” and momentarily thought perhaps I’d been given the wrong folder–that fellow seemed elderly till I fully realized ’twas truly me…having four years now to adjust to being aged, I no longer am startled…peace my friend from “back in the day”…and continued steady recovery…

What? You’re only 76? Punk kid. Your mention of fine wine reminded me of my last bottle of Ripple, which was appropriated by a fellow resident of UMHE’s short-lived communal living experiment. She still owes me.
Great news about the healing. Obey dem orders and take it easy, pleasant man.

My frustration from light duty is somewhat mitigated by the thrilling end of the baseball season and the exciting start of college and NFL football, plus reruns of “Star Trek: Voyager”.
I was amused by the referral letters here in Canada. The doctor always would say “Thank you for referring this very pleasant woman”
I am wondering about your situation with your lungs. Will be interesting to know what it is and why they want you to take it easy. Keep us updated on your medical condition. I am having a shoulder replacement next week. Which is a very scary prospect for me. But at least I haven’t been canceled like so many others, although I was kind of hoping I would be. I don’t like the time I will be dependent but lucky to have Peter to help me.
A former co-worker in Powell River is sharing a recipe for KFC and everyone seems excited about trying it.
Good Luck to us both.

I just talked to the secretary of the surgeon in Victoria I’ll likely see. I’m to talk by phone with him or her next Tuesday and I’ll post after that. Keep us in the loop about your medical situation as well.
